Polarized 3D Systems

Polarized 3D systems use polarized 3D glasses to create the illusion of three dimensional images. This effect is achieved by restricting light that reaches each eye. The images are overlapped using Stereoscopic imagery.
In order for polarized 3D to work their are low cost eyeglasses that have to be worn. the eyeglasses contain a pair of different polarizing filters. Each filter passes only light with the same polarization and blocks light that is not the same polarization. Each eye sees a different perspective.
This is what causes the three dimensional effect.

Early 3D Patents and Tests

Stereoscopic era began in the late 1890s William Friese-Green a British Film pioneer filed a patent for a 3D movie process. In this process two films were projected side-by-side on screen. The viewer had to look through a steroscope to converge the two images. The machinics behind this method could not be achieved in theaters.
Fredrick Eugene Ives patented a stereo camera rig in 1900. With two lenses coupled together 1 3/4 inches apart.
On June 10,1915 Edwin S. Porter and William E. Waddell presented to an audience at the Astor theater in New York City in red and green Anaglyph.
The earliest confirmed film to an audience was The Power of Love at the Ambassador Hotel Theater in Los Angeles on 27 September 1922. The camera rig was designed by the films producer, Harry K. Fairall and Cinematographer Robert F. Elder. The film was projected in dual strip Red-Green Anaglyph. Also red-green anaglyph glasses were used. The filmed dropped out of sight and now is considered LOST!

What is Stereoscopics?

 ster·e·o·scop·ic
ˌsterēəˈskäpik/

adjective
  1. relating to or denoting a process by which two photographs of the same object taken at slightly different angles are viewed together, creating an impression of depth and solidity.

Stereoscopic 3D is a technique used in most movie theaters today. Stereoscopic 3D uses two 2D images offset, overlapping one another.
I think of it much like your eyes. Each eye sees a different perspective. The brain interperates these images and combine them into one.
In most cases you need to wear a special kind of viewing glasses to filter out one side of the the stereo-gram. Polorized 3D glasses are commonly used
in 3D movie theaters today.

What is a 3D Film?

A 3D film is a film that enhances depth perception. There are a few different types of 3D films. One type being stereoscopic photography. Stereoscopic photography is filmed in two perspectives. There are a few different ways to achieve stereoscopic photography. You can achieve this with two cameras or a single camera that has two lenses. I use a Sony Bloggie it is a single camera with two lenses.

You also need special eye-ware to see 3D in most cases. By now most have seen a 3D movie in the movie theater. Those glasses are 3D polarized glasses or the "Real D" glasses. There are others but polarized glasses are common in movie theaters across the world.
The first 3D films emerged in 1915 but were regulated because of high hardware costs and complicated processes. The first 3D movie appeared in American cinema in the 1950s and reemerged in 1980s &1990s. Most 3D movies of this time were IMAX and Disney themed movies.
I hope you all learned a little something today! Here is a link to my YouTube channel where I've been posting stereoscopic scopic 3DClipz. I hope I can entertain you and with enough support maybe a movie? I'm thinking way ahead of myself, but thank you all for reading and maybe subscribing to my YouTube channel! click the link!
